Yes, that’s the way to go, monophonic is monophonic (1 voice, 2 oscillators need 2 voices), of course you can use unison voices on layer level but that’s not the solution.

If you select both layers in list view you can edit them simultaneously for setting up things like filter, envelopes, pitch, whatever happens on keygroup/oscillator level.

Probably the most confusing thing in Falcon, that one can setup things which are not functional, but it all boils down to the same thing related to the Falcon hierarchyre-triggering envelopes only happen on keygroup level. If you link a dummy keygroup to the ADSR on layer level and then assign that ADSR to the delay wet parameter you have a monophonic envelope to control the delay, of course the envelope has to be inverted so that when the synth stops playing the delay will become audible, probably a multi-envelope would be a better solution as the ADSR stops working after the release phase (and there is no infinite release time in the ADSR or DAHDSR).

    Very cool, thanks for this.

I’ll pass it on to my nephew Max.

This patch is very good. The modulation within the multi-granular engine combined wth the unique sample work together very well. It inspires me.

I’m happy to read this, spreading inspiration is always good 🙂

Hi and thanks for all the effort Simon and Thomas. With all the sends in the mixing area it would be an experimenters dream to have a return! Never mind audio in, a return at the keygroup level or as an oscillator.

Welcome to the forum, Brian. Please address feature requests directly to UVI, although I invited the UVI team to join the forum (and some of them have already registered) one can not expect any official kind of support at Falcontinuum.

EDIT: and I shall add for the records that Nik did all the WordPress forum setup, he deserves a big hand for this.

You would need an inverted re-triggering envelope to duck the effect which is only available on keygroup level, but a delay effect can’t be inserted on keygroup level. But there is a workaround which might sort of work described in the knowledge-base here but I doubt it would satisfyingly create a ducking behaviour.

Is it possible to do an envelope follower modulation in Falcon? I would like to, for example, lower an effect gain (say a delay) when the main synth plays. It’s done commonly via a send and sidechain to duck the effect.

No, unfortunately Falcon has no audio input whatsoever, a big feature request which has not yet been fulfilled by the UVI developers.

And everything that needs polyphonic modulators (LFOs/envelopes/steppers) happens on keygroup level as on layer level things become monophonic.

Thanks Simon. That helps to clarify things quite a bit. I guess where it gets a little hazy for me is determining what should be done at the keygroup vs. layer level, and then again at the layer vs. program level.

Actually you can load programs into layers, so layers/programs are pretty much capable of the same things. BUT: scripts and layer rules are only available on program level, arpeggiators can be used on both levels.

I’ll make a tutorial on this soon.

Hello to all you Falconites! I just purchased Falcon and am downloading it now (missed all the sales, silly me). Thanks for creating this site! It’s great to have a place for all the community accumulated knowledge. Irissky

Just stopping by to say hello. I never really have had the time to dig into Falcon, and I’m hoping this forum will be the motivation I need to start learning it. Specifically, I’m still a little unclear about the intended roles of the different levels in the tree hierarchy. I assume there must already be some basic overview tutorials somewhere which cover this?

    Welcome to the forum.

I don’t think there is a dedicated tutorial on that topic, basically it’s:

    Oscillator – Keygroup – Layer – Program – Multi

Keygroups can contain numerous oscillators (also of different types and with round robin chains), the mapping is done on keygroup level. Layers can contain multiple keyroups, Programs can contain multiple layers (also with round robin chains and plenty of other rules defined in layer rules). Multis can contain multiple programs.

Polyphopnic/per voice modulation are only possible on oscillator and keygroup level, on layer level they become monophonic (there is a workaround for some special situation). Filters and some effects can be inserted on keygroup level, most effects can only be inserted on layer/program level (e.g. you can’t have a reverb unit per voice as that would bust any CPU) but you can use e.g. a waveshaper on keygroup level.

Actually this is becoming an article for the knowledgebase 🙂

EDIT: I wrote a quick one here, to be extended later and also created a new topic here.

The solution for now is that one of us admins will change the forum nickname accordingly by either capitalizing the first letter of the name or making other minor changes. Altogether it only occurred in 3 accounts so far.

Cheers, Tom – they were playing french horn, mandolin, acoustic guitar, clarinet and some other things I probably forgot 🙂 – the server isn’t really slow, but compared to my amazon server about 6 times slower so I perceive it as being very slow.

If anyone feels the forum is still a bit empty, she or he is right, so start posting topics in case you start suffer ing from Forum-Cenophobia, a common disease on the Internet. 🙂

Thank’s Pat, yeah we did some homework over the last weeks, the knowledgebase will be further extended over the coming months, I hope some of you will write articles themselves, but that’s no obligation of course.
